Your will cover how to minimise patient risk factors prior to – and during anaesthesia, how to respond to abnormal patient parameters, and how to manage anaesthesia in patients with specific diseases – including heart failure, respiratory diseases (including brachycephalics), kidney disease, GDV and much more!
This is a fully-featured Vet Education online course, including 3 comprehensive live tutorials, extensive course notes and references, Q and A message boards and a special assessment task – all designed to give you the best preparation for your next complicated anaesthetic!
This week covers preparation of anaesthesia for the sick or compromised patient, and includes patient assessment, identification and correction of anaesthetic risk factors, and how to adjust the anaesthetic protocol to minimise risk to the patient – with the ultimate goal of optimising anaesthetic success.

This week will focus on emergency management of anaesthetic compilations, including abnormalities of cardiac rhythm, hypotension and hypertension, abnormal respiration, inappropriate anaesthetic depth, and cardiopulmonary arrest – with the goal of equipping you with the skills to successfully manage these challenging conditions in a timely manner.

This week will focus on specific anaesthetic requirements for patients with specific requirements, including patients with respiratory disease (including BOAS), cardiac disease, severe metabolic disease, sepsis, trauma, neurological disease, kidney disease and more. We’ll also outline approaches to anaesthesia of paediatric and geriatric patients as well!

Learning Outcomes
At the conclusion of this course, the participant will have a sound knowledge of the following:
- The principles and practice of risk reduction in the compromised anaesthetic patient, including patient assessment, manipulation of anaesthetic technique, and pre-anaesthetic therapies aimed at risk reduction
- The diagnosis and emergency stabilisation of a wide range of anaesthetic implications, including respiratory, cardiac, cardiopulmonary arrest, hypertension, hypotension and inappropriate anaesthetic depth
- The specific pre- intra-and post-anaesthetic requirements for patients with respiratory disease, cardiac disease, kidney disease, neurological disease, sepsis, trauma and geriatric or paediatric conditions
