Lecture Summary
The evidence associated with monitoring the clinical condition of a patient through measurement of physiological parameters is long established within both veterinary and human centred medicine. More recently, within the medical field, focus has been directed towards the management of the deteriorating patient, and how early monitoring and associated interventions can prevent catastrophic declines.
Nurses play a critical role in monitoring the condition of their patients and this session will introduce tools used within medical practice that are used routinely to optimise monitoring and early detection of deterioration.
This topic is also being used to support a broader One Health approach whereby human centred nursing is used as a resource to stimulate discussion and debate with the aim of improving veterinary clinical outcomes.
