A Practical Approach to Avian Anxiety
Deborah Monks is the owner of Brisbane Bird and Exotics Service in Queensland, Australia. After graduating from the University of Queensland, Dr. Monks worked in a variety of practices (general, emergency, 50% avian/50% small animal practice), before finally moving to the United Kingdom to start an avian residency at Great Western Referrals. While in England, she obtained her Certificate of Zoological Medicine (CertZooMed). Deborah is also a Diplomate of the European College of Zoological Medicine and Surgery (Avian) and a Fellow (Specialist) in Avian Medicine and Surgery of the FANCVSc. Dr. Monks is President of the Unusual Pets and Avian Vets Special Interest Group of the Australian Veterinary Association, she is the Examination Chair of the Avian Chapter of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists, and is on both the Scientific and Outreach Committees of the European College of Zoological Medicine. She’s served as an online consultant for the Veterinary Information Network for a decade, and has edited two veterinary textbooks, with another one in preparation.

Clinical Techniques in Avian Medicine
Dr Bob Doneley is a registered specialist and Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists in Avian Medicine. He is currently the Head of the Avian and Exotic Pet Service and a Professor at the University of Queensland. He teaches exotic medicine and surgery to both the veterinary and veterinary technology students there. Dr Doneley is also the author of the book, Avian Medicine and Surgery in Practice, now in its second edition, and an Editor of the book, Reptile Medicine and Surgery in Clinical Practice.

Jade Kingsley is an exotics and wildlife veterinarian at TheWildVet in Sydney, where she consults as primary accession and referral exotic animal medicine. During her veterinary studies she interned in various zoos and wildlife hospitals around the world. After graduating from The University of Sydney in 2012, she worked in both emergency and wildlife hospitals across Australia. In 2018, Jade completed her membership exams in Avian Health (MANZCVS – Avian Health). Since, she has worked exclusively in exotics hospitals, which includes Sydney Exotics and Rabbit Vets. She is passionate about pediatric care, nutrition, and continues to work with various wildlife organizations in her spare time.
