In this program, participants will learn about the shifting climate experienced by families who have difficulty accessing quality veterinary care and how our profession is changing regarding our philosophies around access to care. Through interactive activities, participants will understand the various terminology and consider common beliefs used to describe access to care medicine as well as determine possible veterinary healthcare barriers that have developed in our profession. Participants will also explore how decreasing barriers to accessing quality veterinary care will not only improve the lives of our patients and clients, but how it can also improve the mental health of ourselves and our staff. Finally, participants will create lists of current barriers that may be occurring in their own attitudes and clinics and discuss a variety of opportunities (starting simple) to improve veterinary access to the members of their communities.
