With a passion for mentorship, Dr. Maria has guided fellow veterinarians, imparting valuable insights to fortify their leadership vision.

Originating as a migrant veterinarian in the United States, Dr. Maria navigated her journey from a veterinary technician in ophthalmology and emergency & critical care to achieving licensure as a veterinarian.
Her diverse experience culminated in a remarkable 15-year career at the County of Los Angeles’ Department of Animal and Control, where she ascended from a shelter veterinarian to Chief Veterinarian and later a Deputy Director for operations and special programs. During her tenure, she championed the Shared Leadership philosophy, ensuring the active participation of veterinarians in decision-making processes, revolutionizing program development and management.
